In one of his notebooks he refers to tales he heard of movie-stars so fed up with the spread of syphilis and the frequency of blackmail that they had abandoned human intercourse completely in favor of elaborate sex machines. He was especially struck by the story of one man who had shot himself dead in front of a mirror while wearing some sort of masturbatory device on his penis.”
